Battery Passport Obligations
EU Battery Passport – all obligations from 2027.
The EU Battery Regulation requires a digital Battery Passport for industrial, electric-vehicle and starter batteries above 2 kWh from February 2027. Here's what that means in practice.
Who is affected?
The Battery Passport obligation applies to all economic operators placing batteries above 2 kWh on the EU market: manufacturers, importers and authorized representatives. This covers industrial batteries, traction batteries in electric vehicles and starter batteries. Small portable batteries (e.g. AA batteries) are initially exempt.
What needs to be documented?
The Battery Passport must contain comprehensive information: manufacturer and place of manufacture, battery chemistry and material composition, capacity and performance data, carbon footprint, recycling information and safety instructions. Details on lifespan and the current State of Health of the battery must also be provided.
How is the Battery Passport made accessible?
The Battery Passport must be accessible via a standardized data carrier on the product – typically a QR code. This is exactly where QIKY comes in: our platform specializes in providing product data digitally and in a structured way via QR code. The data structure complies with EU requirements and is continuously updated.
